Course introduction: Free on line events course – 7 steps to the perfect event
Events play an ever-increasing and important part of our everyday lives. We love our events! They can encompass anything from festivals and conferences to food and craft fairs to parties and celebrations – just about anything can be turned into an event.
Events appeal to our primal universal instinct, to gather together to learn, be entertained, celebrate and communicate with each other face to face…it’s in our DNA. Our stand out memories often revolve around a shared experience, an event. Live Events will never go out of fashion.
For every event organised there needs to an event manager behind the scenes making it happen.
Could this be you?
The fact is:
I believe event management is a learnt skill (I learnt to be an event manager) and with a little of the right kind of help and a ‘can do’ attitude you can learn to be an event manager.
Why should you think about becoming an event manager?
My thoughts…are as career event manager and echoed by many of the people I have been fortunate enough to work with over these past 20+ years is well….there is nothing more rewarding than seeing the end product (your event / festival): seeing your audience enjoying themselves: connecting: learning: achieving something: being inspired: smile: have light bulb moments and sharing powerful experiences…and knowing that you made it happen. It is incredibly fulfilling. From meetings to major music festivals, the event manager serves as the linchpin that brings the whole thing together.
Events are no walk in the park but they are doable and that knowledge of knowing you or your events team made it happen, is very special.

Your Event guide: Chris Powell, The Event Expert
Chris Powell is Director of The Event Expert. Chris has been designing, planning and delivering events for 24 years. In that time, he has been a local authority events manager and events director of a range of events and festivals, as well as helping a variety of organisations to deliver their events – as a freelance events manager and consultant.
For the past 20 years he has also been helping clients from the world of business, exhibitions, education, sport, the public and charity sector, training, tourism, creative agencies and festivals develop the ideas, skills and confidence to go it alone: run their own events. He specialises in providing on line, in-house and virtual webinar events training and consultancy services to accidental, occasional and professional event managers across the UK, Europe and the Middle East. His clients include some very well-known names. He’s an in-demand event specialist.
He is a self-confessed event groupie…a lover of all thing’s events and a student of event management; keen to know what the latest event trends are and perhaps somewhat modestly suggests he is still learning to be an event manager!
However, with some 500 events successfully completed and over 5000 events managers trained, it’s safe to say that there is not much Chris doesn’t know about the ‘how to’ of successful events.
He is a regular blogger on all thing’s events, a speaker and author of two event planning books. Work with or listen to Chris and you will get clear, logical and easy to follow advice based on his 20+ years of practical events management experience. He does indeed practice what he preaches.
