The Event Expert: Bespoke Event and Health and Safety Management Workshop
EMO Unlimited and This Unlimited
EMO Unlimited and This Unlimited are experiential marketing and communication companies. They get to do a lot of interesting stuff: such as running events, fan zones, sampling activities, creating and building client stands and delivering a range of bespoke customer brand experiences – some pretty amazing things and in some great venues. While they had no concerns over their ability to do the job, they did feel they needed to make sure the team were fully conversant with all the relevant event health and safety regulations. The idea being, to ensure all client events and activities delivered, met best practice guidance. The problem they were also having is confounded by the fact that different venues have different rules and regulations for the same activity! I got a call.
So how did I help?
While my event management planning knowledge and experience was helpful, what was needed was a course more geared to running events in the UK’s indoor venues. So I set to work and created an A to Z guide to typical event health and safety issues in indoor venues. The idea was to ensure the staff at EMO Unlimited and This Unlimited remained compliant with the law during the set up and delivery of their events. Examples of some of the areas I covered included the build-up and break- down regulations, catering and sampling, crowd management, stairs and gangways, lifting operations, platforms, stages, seating and stand construction…to name but a few. With the guide created I was then able to design and deliver a training course to run alongside it.
The outcome
13 members of the EMO Unlimited and This Unlimited event team attended the course from Heads of Service and Account Directors to Production managers, Experiential Analysts and managers. Despite the perceived dryness of the subject (not by me!) the course went well with everyone got to take their own ‘key points’ A-Z Event Safety Guide back to the office. To help embed the learning I devised a large number of real world examples for them to practice what they were learning. The guys and gals at EMO Unlimited and This Unlimited now feel happy to tackle anything that drops into the inbox – however complicated it could be!
